After reading this short article you should understand that you should never use antibiotics in your fishtanks.

Why? Well suppose a fish in the wild were caught and given antibiotics. Said fish would see all it's beneficial bacteria die off, tragic, but not deadly since it could pick that bacteria up from another fish or it's environment.

What is the difference between a fish tank and any natural water source where we find fish? Oh, I know, aquariums are closed systems. If you wipe out all the beneficial bacteria on a fish, and kill all the cultures of that bacteria around the tank, your fish will not be able to get that bacteria again unless you add another fish with that bacteria.

So in conclusion to this short post, never use antibiotics unless it's a true life and death situation, and only in a quarantine tank away from the rest of the flock.
